Cook, The Brand For Explorers

Sharing is caring!

Cook is a new brand on the block. Leading the way in sustainable fashion, the brand also delves into a rich history of British Exploration. The ‘Cook’ brand launched in late 2020 and firmly believe in pushing our habits to a more sustainable future. Did you know that a rubbish truck full of textile waste is burnt or sent to landfill every single second? Just stop and count 5…4…3…2…1, Now try to envisage how much waste is being dumped due to our everyday habits just due to the clothes we throw out!

A fast-fashion culture has been having a huge impact on our planet for years. Highstreet stores have been offering fashion items at all-time low’s which raises questions on the ethics. Just how can something be sold for such a low price? Unfortunately, this seems to be at the back of our minds when it comes to grabbing a bargain.

Environmental Impact

The fashion industry actually makes up 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions. Not to mention the impact we don’t see or think about. The delivery of products and the impact of washing our clothes has to rivers, streams and our oceans are just a start. With 85% of all textiles landing as waste each and every year, now is the time to emphasis that less is actually more.

The Cook Brand pride themselves on the manufacturing of highly sustainable, hard-wearing clothing. When something is such a high quality, why have more? You may have read in my article 15 Pack Hacks and how lightening your luggage load is not only good for the environment, but for your back too! Having items versatile enough for any environment can only be a plus when it comes to travel and everyday life too.

Inspiration Behind Cook

1769 label showing the vision behind the cook brand logo

The 1769 label depicts the year Captain Cook first arrived in Tahiti for the transit of Venus. The star represents the desire to know the universe which is what Cook and his crew initially set out on the Endeavour to achieve. However, on meeting the local population and with his fascination of the people of Tahiti he discovered there was just as much to discover right in front of our eyes. The people superseded his galactic focus. This inaugural collection truly shows the love of exploration and travel as well as the impact these stories and journeys have on our lives.

As travellers and explorers ourselves, we all know the value of a great story. The kind you don’t make or create sitting on your couch watching Netflix. This brand is all about getting out and exploring the world we live in and giving something back at the same time. The entire collection was designed, sourced and manufactured within 500 miles, helping to minimise the carbon footprint and using locally sourced materials.

WE BELIEVE THAT CLOTHING IS NOT ONLY SOMETHING YOU WEAR, BUT PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER. EVERYTHING YOU SEE, EVERYONE YOU MEET HAS A STORY. WE AIM TO TELL THOSE STORIES. OUR FIRST COLLECTION IS BASED ON ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS EXPLORERS, CAPTAIN COOK.

A Brotherhood In Craft And Style

Time, effort and research are key in making something sustainable by knowing how materials will wear over time. With proper respect and understanding of the nature behind it all has allowed Cook to manufacture garments that will last you for years to come. Along with that, the items can and will share in your adventures and numerous experiences no matter the intensity. Price-per-wear is where the real value is gained and by investing in yourself and your clothing, you are also investing in the environment and so OUR future.

The Cook Philosophy

Cook Brand on the rocks and sea

The brand isn’t out to sell hundreds and thousands of items all over the globe. When asking the man behind this venture, he told me this;

WE BELIEVE IN TELLING A STORY THROUGH OUR PRODUCTS, USING LOCAL FACTORIES, AND BEING TRANSPARENT ABOUT WHERE EVERYTHING COMES FROM. WE AIM TO SOURCE THE BEST, MOST SUSTAINABLE, AND ETHICAL MATERIALS WE CAN FIND.

Cook Brand Representative

Not only does Cook bring you products that look great, but will last the test of time and continue to look that way. One excuse for not buying sustainably is simply due to the ease of which things are available at a click of a button and at a bargain price. Now think about how long a garment usually lasts… and work out your cost per wear. That bargain item that needs replacing within 6 months of hard wear just became more expensive didn’t it?

Sustainability obviously has its costs. Materials cost more, as does a fair wage for those involved in manufacturing such quality, locally sourced products. We should all be well aware of child poverty and sweatshops used by companies all over the world to allow you that £10/$15 t-shirt delivered next day to your very doorstep. How is that possible in a fair world?

BUT WE BELIEVE IT IS WORTH THE ADDED COST, AND THAT YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY’S WORTH OUT OF THE ITEM BY WEARING IT FOR YEARS TO COME.

Follow Cook

Aside from the fantastic name of the brand, ‘Cook’ attention to detail and the love that has gone into these products are like nothing I have experienced before. From the story behind the logo to the impeccable labelling, you really can ‘feel’ this product. From accessories to top end hoodies that would not look out of place at a dinner table or hiking the hills, the Cook brand can be worn with an air of sophistication and pride.

The story behind Cook emphasises that a legacy has negatives, as well as positives, which need to be highlighted. This is the only way to enlighten others and help to fight any wrongs. In an incredible act of generosity and as true evidence of the inspiration behind Cook, they have vowed to donate from profits made to key charities after each season ends. Sustainability builds sustainability and by supporting the brand you are supporting a whole new legacy.
