TUI announces holiday destinations will open up from July

Don’t put those budgie smugglers or bikini’s away just yet. A summer holiday may still be on the cards.

With the travel industry hanging by a thread due to the Covid-19 pandemic, TUI is throwing a lifeline to holidaymakers and business’ owners alike.

TUI Infinity And Beyond

Well, not quite infinity. However, from July 11th TUI will be flying from three UK airports to a handful of destinations. 44 flights a week will leave from Manchester, Birmingham and Gatwick airport. The 8 destinations on offer are; Ibiza, Corfu, Palma, Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Lanzarote and Tenerife. The travel company also plans to fly from an additional two airports by the end of July. This is only the start. TUI also plans on increasing the destinations offered to 19 by August.

The travel operator is also introducing an industry first. A ‘holiday promise’. This will guarantee jet setters will only arrive at quarantine-free destinations. In addition to this, resort support will be available at all times.

New state of the art air filtration filtering systems ensuring fresh air is circulated on all flights every few minutes is also a feature. On top of this, additional health and safety measures including digital check-in. Face masks will be mandatory on all flights and social distancing at hotels will also be present at all times. Fewer tables and longer hours will be introduced to restaurants to avoid overcrowding. Self-service will also now replace waiting staff.

BUT… Can I ‘Holiday’?

Leisure facilities such as tennis courts and recreational sports facilities will be open. These facilities will offer extended hours to cater for more people. Beaches are also set to be conforming with 2-metre social distancing layouts. Self sanitisation stations are also being set up to increase hygiene. There will be fewer tables and longer hours introduced to restaurants. This will help avoid overcrowding as well as self-service replacing waiting staff.

It may not be your normal vacation. However, this may be something of a ‘new normal’ the world may have to get used to.

TUI Promise

That’s not all. The TUI promise means that a full cash refund or credit notes will be available should coronavirus cause cancellation. For more information on holiday cancellations, check out my ‘Refund or Rebook’ article.

” We’re really excited about taking people on holiday again. We know how many Brits are eager to travel again, and we have ambitious plans to rapidly increase our programme as soon as possible to offer even more choices when it comes to holidaying this summer.”

Andrew Flintham- Managing Director of TUI UK and Ireland.

The UK government is yet to change travel advice. The FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office) still advises against all non-essential travel. However, TUI has been working behind the scenes to get people travelling again. Initially focusing on destinations with ‘travel bridges’. These are anticipated to be Spain and Greece, with the likelihood of opening this up further by August.

UK Quarantine

Watch this space. Increased pressure being put on the UK government to reciprocate a no quarantine policy for those offering the same. Spain recently reopened its borders to the UK. There are no quarantine requirements on entering either. Spanish authorities are said to be in talks to secure this for those leaving the country to return, or to visit, the British Isles.
