The Tourist
There are two types of travellers in the world. The one that wants to travel and that requires all the pros without the cons. These are the ‘tourist’ group. Tourists do not want to worry about their accommodation (and it has to be spotless Sir!) They also do not want to seek for food outside, they will prefer being served by the hotel & if they visit the country it would have to be with a certified guide. The bus would need to have aircon and food will have to provide it during their excursion.
…
The Backpacker
On the other end, the backpacker has a low budget in hand. Accommodation is not going to be one of their priorities and choose a different option. Backpackers will always choose a hostel over a hotel. This will often mean sleeping in dorms. It’s not unusual to share a room with ten or more people to save a few $$. Anything in order to travel longer. Backpackers will try to find the cheapest food that they can. This usually means finding the local hotspots rather than tourist areas. Even better if you can have a few dollars left over to party at night and buy a few beers. They live very much by the attitude of ‘pay less, live more’.
I went through both of them. I worked in resorts for ten years between the Bahamas, Cyprus, the Canary Islands, Baleares islands & Spain. While working around resorts, customers were always very demanding and sometimes think that everything is due to them because they spend money. A tourist usually has a daily schedule and it will have to be followed carefully by the whole family.

Written From Experience
I started backpacking at the age of 21 years old. I left without a clue of what I was doing and where I was going. After working in Cyprus for seven months as an entertainer, I came back to France. Here I bought my first backpack, threw two pairs of pants, a few shirts, some underwear, and purchased a one-way ticket to Hanoi – Vietnam. Backpackers know when their adventure starts but do not have clue when it will end. (Most stop only when they ran out of money)
Tourists are mostly family type who book their holiday six months + in advance during a promotion deal online. They worked their ass off for one year in the order to go on vacation for one week. So of course, it has to be perfect.
I am more of a backpacker than a tourist. Even though I am a married man, we travel the simplest way possible. Renting a motorbike for a day, for example. This is a great way to find local restaurants and meet people on the way. On the other hand, we try to find rooms that are a bit more comfortable and relatively cheap so we can enjoy more.
Both tourists and backpackers have their pros & cons and it will depend on the kind of holiday that you are looking for and the length of your journey. What kind of travellers are you? Which would be your future destination or your dream country? Comment it below.

Crazy Story…
Back in 2013, I was working in New Zealand as a photographer, I went on holiday to see my family in France and on my way back I decided to take one month off in Malaysia. I went there few times before and there was few places that I wanted to visit again like Malacca & the Cameron Highland.
I signed up to a website called “Travel Buddy” (Doesn’t exist anymore) To meet someone that I could travel with while in Malaysia and I met a local named Fizah. I have asked her if she could host me for 2-3 nights and maybe give me some pointer of places that I did not think about.
Three nights become a week and a week become a month & It was time for me to get back to work in New Zealand. I asked Fizah to join me there (She just purchased a new car and had a really good job working for an oil & Gas company) She also was renting a flat, had a lot of furniture and also a 14 years old son but she said yes and quite everything to be with me.
A month later, I proposed her and we got married in 2016 in France & Malaysia. We spent 5 years in New Zealand and we now live in Kuala-Lumpur.
Clap clap clap! I was smiling while reading the article. Do you know why? mmm…. lol. Thank you.
Haha and why did you have a smile on your face?
