Airbnb is the new travel norm
Your home from home.

It may not be new as it is now well over 10 years old… but Airbnb is definitely the BEST way to stay! It may also allow travel to be more accessible amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. No social distancing. No crowds.

As a thank you to all my readers and followers, I would like to pass on a gift of £50 off your first booking, just for reading this blog. Not your first time with Airbnb? There’s a hack for that! Read on to find out how.

Starting up by some university students over in the U.S in 2008 as an ‘Air Bed BnB’ for people to sleep on the floor at a host’s place. It has grown immensely over the years and now has over 50 million registered places to stay worldwide!

With the possibility of travel abroad on the horizon with a vacines about to be rolled out globally, holidays may very well be back on the cards for 2021. But with people reluctant to be in a ‘hotel’ environment, is Airbnb the best way to get away…while still staying safe from COVID-19?

My First Time And Beyond

In August 2018 I had my first Airbnb experience in the beautiful City of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Since this time I have used Airbnb all over the world from Canada to Portugal and even all over the UK.

dubrovnik croatia was my first Airbnb experience
Dubrovnik, Croatia.

How It Works

For those of you that are as unfamiliar as I was at my first introduction; Airbnb is an online market place in which people rent out a property (usually their homes) or even just a room. This allows a completely different experience to travellers as an alternative to a hotel. Basically, a home-from-home.

A hotel is fine…but let’s be honest, your sitting in little more than a bedroom. For me, its a place to sleep and shower, never really for ‘downtime’. Not only that, but you will also now have to face extended restaurant times, being around others in an eating environment and having to constantly look over your shoulders. wondering if ‘that’ person just washed their hands. Isn’t a ‘home from home’ a better option during the current climate? Why not use it during your incredible solo travel venture in 2021?

You Never Forget Your First Time

My first experience was at Apartment Romana, located in a fantastic area of Dubrovnik. The apartment was spotless, cosy, comfy and very well located. However, the one thing that stood out over anything else was the amazing hospitality. This is something that you do not always receive in a hotel and in my opinion, the big difference between the two types of accommodation.

Word of mouth and reviews via the app/website is how hosts attract clients. So making your experience unforgettable is so important and why it has such a personal and friendly touch compared to that of a hotel.
