With travelling abroad still proving very difficult, it opens your eyes to what’s on your doorstep. My advice? Use the current situation to your advantage and see what may be hiding right under your nose. Today, I’m going to let you into a little secret of a mini marvel that I was lucky enough to see during my last trip to Manchester, England.
The Washhouse, Manchester
Now, you must be thinking, ‘What the HELL is Cooky blogging a laundrette for?’ However, THIS is the ‘Mini Marvel of Manchester’.
As you can see. Not all is as it seems. The washhouse is actually one of the best cocktail bars I have ever visited!
With access by pre-booking only, it really is one of Manchester’s best-kept Secrets!
What To Expect
You would be forgiven for not giving the place a second glance. Even as you enter there is very little evidence of anything other than a run-down old laundrette. It is on closer inspection that one realises that not all is as it seems.
Down To Business
To gain access, there is an old-style telephone over to the side of the room. Access to the Bar is only granted should you have a reservation. You are then met by someone from within the bar, where the views instantly change!
What’s On The Menu
The menu is a vast bible of mixology madness. With Drinks that fizz, fire, pop and smoke, it is a pleasure to all the senses. What they have tried to achieve is a selection of drinks, made by the extremely talented mixologists, all inspired by manchester through the ages. For example, one drink available is in honour of a person described by Winston Churchill as a man who made the single biggest contribution to the Allied victory in World War II. His name, Alan Turing. Turing’s brilliant work in mathematics and logic laid out the blueprint for modern computers and, in turn, the digital age.
So in honour of one of the Heroes of World War II, one of the drinks requires you to crack a padlock combination within 10 minutes to receive a free drink! Have you got what it takes to honour the great man from Manchester?
The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating
Well… in this case the drinking. Having sampled my fair share of Manchester’s finest that night, I can honestly say each was better than the last. The chief mixologists really know their stuff and go through what’s in each drink and the history behind it on the arrival of each beverage. I even had my very own bonfire at the table. Smores anyone?
How Do I See This Magical Place?
As I previously stated, entrance is via prebooking only. I will drop a link in below for their website. Very much in Wash House style, even the website makes you look twice, but trust me, the booking form is there at the bottom. I will warn that prices are not the cheapest bar in Manchester. However, you really do get what you pay for! The extremely knowledgable staff will help with any questions you may have.
